Description
Rock salt is studied as a radio wave transmission medium in an ultra high energy (UHE) cosmic neutrino detector. The radio wave would be generated by Askar'yan effect (coherent Chrenkov radiation from negative excess charges in the electromagnetic shower) in the UHE neutrino interaction in the rock salt. We collected the samples of the rock salts from various rock salt mines in order to investigate whether they have a possibility as a Salt Neutrino Detector (SND) sites or not. As a tentative result, the absorption length of the rock salt samples was measured to be between 40 m and 400 m at 1 GHz
