Description
We simulate the effective lagrangian description of gauge theories with spontaneous mass generation by considering the chiral Gross-Neveu model embedded in a two-dimensional U(1) gauge theory. It is shown that in this hybrid model the non-vanishing expectation value of anti PSI PSI is due to the contribution of instanton configurations with fractional winding. (orig.)
