Recent developments in the production of 18F, sup(75,76,77)Br and 123I

Description
Halogens are particularly useful for labelling biomolecules which find application in functional imaging using PET(e.g. with 18F, 75Br) or SPECT (with 123I). This paper reviews some of the recent developments in the production of 18F, 75Br, 76Br, 77Br and 123I. Nuclear data, thick target yields, advances in targetry and radiochemical separation methods, as well as radionuclidic impurities are discussed. Wherever possible a critical comparison of the various production routes is given. An evaluation of the possibility of production of the above mentioned radiohalogens using small cyclotrons is presented. (author)
