Generalized electromagnetic momentum and the Fresnel relations

  • 1. AMSRD-AMR-WS-ST, US Army RDECOM, Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898 (United States)

Description

The Dirac analogy between the dynamics of a single mode of the electromagnetic field and a simple harmonic oscillator is used to derive a generalized electromagnetic momentum from the average canonical momentum of harmonic oscillators. A new derivation of the Fresnel relations, based on conservation laws, is presented
