First direct measurement of α-μ sticking in dt-μCF

Description
Both (αμ)+ and α particles have been observed in coincidence with fusion neutrons in a gaseous D-T target at 2.8 x 10-3 liquid-hydrogen density. The initial muon sticking probability in muon-catalyzed d-t fusion, measured directly for the first time, is (0.80 +- 0.15 +- 0.12 systematic)% in agreement with 'standard' theoretical calculations. However, this measured value does not support those theories that invoke special mechanisms to alter the initial sticking value
