Structure of transition metal cluster compounds and the applicability boundaries of electron calculation rule in polyhedral molecules

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Ehlementoorganicheskikh Soedinenij

Description

Consideration is being given to up-to-date theories of the electron cluster structure and schemes for counting electrons in them deduced from Mo analysis. The schemes enable to determine the margic numbers of valent and skeleton electrons in clusters which respond to the existence of energetically advantageous characteristic geometrical configurations of cluster polyhedrons. The class of superaromatic clusters obeying the Wade rule (the rule 2n+2) was distinguished among multiplicity polynuclear compounds. Cluster structures for transition metals Mn with n=3 to 38 including minor, tpigonal-bipyramidal, octahedral clusters, medium-size polyhedrons, large clusters were considered. Applicability of the available schemes of the magic number determination to each of these groups of compounds is discussed
