Absolute beam charge measurements with toroid monitors: experience at the Bates Linac
Description
The beam charge monitor developed at the Bates Linear Accelerator uses a compensated toroid current transformer and a precision linear gate to achieve long-term 0.1% accuracy that is independent of beam parameters over the range encountered at Bates. Accuracy specifications and the validity of absolute monitor calibration with a charge pulser have been confirmed by comparing a pulser calibrated monitor with the Faraday cup at the NBS Linac.
