Description
Creation of new materials is an essential issue to attain an innovative improvement of fast reactors' performance to achieve its excellent economics. In this paper, status and highlights are presented on the research of new ceramics in PNC. Sodium corrosion characteristics and mechanisms have been investigated at 550 and 650degC for 1,000 and 4,000 hrs. on new ceramics recently developed. It was clarified that the dominant corrosion mode was an intergranular attack by sodium on sintered ceramics. Some considerations for their improvement have been proposed through their detail evaluation to create advanced ceramics having an excellent resistance to sodium corrosion for future fast reactor application.
