Lower-hybrid drift instability as a dissipation mechanism in the magnetospheric plasma
Description
The lower-hybrid drift instability is analyzed as a dissipation mechanism near the neutral plane in the tail of the earth's magnetosphere. An instability can occur in a neutral sheet with a sufficiently large normal magnetic-field component
