Description
A transketolase reaction and adenine nucleotide-synthesizing ability of erythrocytes of X-irradiated guinea-pigs and albino rats have been studied. A pronounced (19.6-30.1 per cent) inhibition of the transketolase reaction has been observed on the 4th and 8th days after irradiation of albino rats with a dose of 800 R. The depression of the transketolase activity in erythrocytes is shown to be unrelated to provision of the animal organism with thiamin. On the 4th and 6th days following irradiation of rats (800 R), adenine nucleotide-synthesizing ability of erythrocytes decreases by 29 and 23 per cent respectively
