Vattenfall's electricity production system with examples from the LCI for electricity production from nuclear power

  • 1. Vattenfall Energisystem AB (Sweden)

Description

Electricity is used for the manufacture of practically all products. Reliable data on the consumption of resources and environmental impact in connection with electricity production is therefore extremely important when Life-Cycle Assessments are to be carried out for these products. Vattenfall produces approximately 50 % of the electricity in Sweden, mainly by hydro-and nuclear power. In the study on electricity produced by Vattenfall, from which the summary report will become official in the fall of 1996 actual data from existing plants has been used. As far as possible, information has been obtained at source. Modern data on energy consumption and emissions have been used for manufacture of materials and transportation. As the study does not proceed to valuation, it is Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) rather than an LCA. (authors)
