Boiling Water Reactor system analysis
Description
The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of plant operational and abnormal transients of moderate to low frequency on the Boiling Water Nuclear Reactor (BWR) system. Before embarking on a discussion of these transients, it is useful to briefly consider the direct cycle BWR design, steady state operation and the reactor protection, control and emergency cooling systems. Following a section on the classification of transient types and design bases to which the plant must conform, the physical phenomena and methods of transient analysis are discussed. Results for typical transients are illustrated, showing the variations in key parameters. Comparisons of predictions with typical plant transient data are shown and discussed. Finally, the present state-of-the-art in transient analysis, capabilities and limitations are summarized
