Improved thermal performance at the Palisades plant

Creators

  • 1. Consumers Power Co., Palisades Plant, Covert, MI (USA)

Description

The Palisades Nuclear Plant of Consumers Power Company has shown significant improvement in plant thermal performance over the last 8 yr. Since 1979 plant gross efficiency has been increased 2.6% from an average of 29.7 to 32.3%. This corresponds to an 8.8% improvement. In conjunction with the improved efficiency, a 50-MW(electric) increase occurred in the plant net electrical output. This increase is projected to save Consumers Power $7.7 million each year in replacement power costs. Several major factors played a part in this improved plant performance. Each of these is outlined in this paper
