Low doses - technical aspects

Description
Risk assessments considering the dose-response relationship of low doses emanating from technical applications of ionizing radiation to a large extent rely on reference data obtained for activities and techniques subject to monitoring in applications using higher doses, and the relevant risk factors calculated for these cases. Assessments done for low-dose applications for the purposes of occupational radiation protection are made by way of extrapolation using different models. The ICRP model for instance assumes a linear relationship without any threshold value, for stochastic effects. (DG)

Risikoabschaetzungen fuer die Dosis-Wirkungsbeziehung kleiner Strahlendosen in der Technik basieren weitgehend auf Erkenntnissen ueber Masszahlen in Gefaehrdungsbereichen mit zurueckliegend hoeheren Dosen des jeweiligen Risikofaktors. Dies gilt fuer den Arbeitsschutz wie fuer den Strahlenschutz. Die Extrapolation auf Personengruppen in Bereichen mit kleiner Dosis erfolgt unter der Annahme bestimmter Modelle. Die ICRP nimmt an, dass es hinsichtlich der stochastischen Wirkungen zwischen der Dosis und der Wahrscheinlichkeit strahleninduzierter Wirkungen eine lineare Beziehung ohne Schwellenwert gibt.
