Description

A considerable amount of fissile material is being made available in the course of nuclear disarmament and this poses the problem of safe utilization of weapon-grade fissile materials. This task is studies in the context of the general strategy of nuclear power development within the framework of the advancement and development of the traditional reactor types, e.g. light-water (VVER-type) and fast (BN-type) reactors and their fuel cycle. Different scenarios using weapon-grade plutonium are compared in order to define an efficient way to reduce stocks of military plutonium in Russia. (authors)
