Catalysis and inhibition of the uranyl nitrate-tributyl-phosphate exchange reaction
Description
The exchange reaction UO2(NO3)2.2TBP + TBP* = TBP + UO2(NO3)2.2TBP* was studied in acetonitrile and was found to be catalyzed by water and methanol and to be inhibited by added nitrate. The observations were interpreted in terms of a mechanism composed of two parallel reactions: one which proceeds via UO2(NO3)2.3TBP activated complex, similar to what happens in low dielectric constant solvents, and one which depends on ionization of uranyl nitrate and a UO2(NO3).3TBP + activated complex. Rate constants and activation energies and entropies were evaluated. (author)
