Stripping and gas ionisation effects in a 1 MV D- neutral beam injector
Description
In a 1 MV D-neutral beam injector the ion beam interaction with the D2 gas in the ion accelerating gap and in the neutralizer creates energetic stray particles which produce deleterious effects like: injector power loss, electrode thermal loading, radiation emission, high voltage breakdown etc.. The different processes are analyzed and some quantitative data are given which can be utilised as a guide for the design of the powerful neutral beam injectors required for ITER.
