Description

A low temperature assembly for cyclotron bombardment of targets with deuterium beams has been devised. A stream of He gas, cooled with liquid nitrogen, is blown onto the target for irradiation. Suppression of thermal and radiation decomposition is improved compared to a water cooling system. 95Tc and 99Tc were produced in which nearly all the technetium was in the reduced form and not as pertechnetate.
