The program discussed was designed to improve weld quality in Ti-662 sheet. The approach was based on establishing an alloy addition which could be introduced to the weld puddle via the welding filler metal and would provide a relatively homogeneous fine precipitate for grain size control. Yttrium was selected because of its low solid solubility in the titanium alloy and high affinity for oxygen,
