In-situ observation of radiation damage by 400 keV heavy ions
Description
A facility for in-situ observation of heavy-ion radiation damage has been constructed at the Nuclear Engineering Research Laboratory of the University of Tokyo. This combines a 400 keV heavy-ion accelerator with a 200 keV electron microscope, with the ion beam entering at an angle of 450 to the electron beam axis of the microscope. Brief descriptions are made on the accelerator and the beam transport system. Some observations on solution treated SUS 316 stainless steel irradiated with 300 and 400 keV Ar+ ions at relatively low temperatures (less than or equal to 1000C) are described. Technical problems which need further improvements are summarized
