Robust cooling system and safety diagnostics for superconductive machines. Final report

Description

During this project, a powerful test bench for the examination of superconductive coils, including the corresponding safety components, has been realized. The test bench is used for the testing, the characterization and the qualification of material samples of superconductors or superconductive coils, applied in stators of electrical machines. The combination with a specifically selected measurement method enables the realization of precise and reproductible test results. Thus, a specific analytical dependence of the power losses and the current peak value during AC-operation of superconductive coils could be determined and proved by measurements. Furthermore, application-focused procedures for the early detection of quenches has been developed, examined and approved. These procedures are based on different characteristics occuring during a quench of a module is a modular and compact design of a power output stage, located close to the coil, in order to optimize the control of superconductive windings in regard to power losses.
