Nuclear techniques to assess body composition in children previously treated for moderate (MAM) and severe acute malnutrition (SAM), and its medium term benefits and risks in 8 countries in Africa
Description
There has been efforts of promoting sound growth of children are on-going including the treatment of acute malnutrition. There is increased concern, however, on the medium term and long term effects of some interventions. The main objective of the sudy is to assess the nutritional status, body composition, physical function (muscle strength and lung function), immune function, and cognitive function of children who have undergone treatment for malnutrition using date on sibling or community controls who have not required such treatment as the reference group. Authorization to conduct the study had been secured from the host institution (Siaya County Referral Hospital). Students supported by the study have been oriented to the study.
