Digital image intensifier radiography: first experiences with the DSI (Digital Spot Imaging)

We performed a comparative study of digitally and conventionally acquired images in gastrointestinal examinations. Radiation dose and spatial resolution were determined in a water phantom. In 676 examinations with either conventional or digital imaging (system: Diagnost 76, DSI) the number of images and the duration of the fluoroscopy time were compared. 101 examinations with digital as well as conventional documentation were evaluated by using 5 criteria describing the diagnostic performance. The entrance dose of the DSI is 12% to 36% of the film/screen system and the spatial resolution of the DSI may be better than that of a film/screen system with a speed of 200. The fluoroscopy time shows no significant difference between DSI and the film/screen technique. In 2 of 4 examination modes significantly more images were produced by the DSI. With exception of the criterion of edge sharpness, DSI yields a significantly inferior assessment compared with the film/screen technique. (orig./MG)

Es wurde ein Vergleich zwischen digitaler Bildverstaerker- und konventioneller Film-Folien-Technik in der gastrointestinalen Diagnostik durchgefuehrt. Hierzu wurden die Einfallsdosis an einem Pruefkoerper sowie die Detailaufloesung in einem Wasserphantom vergleichend bestimmt, bei 676 konventionell beziehungsweise digital angefertigten Magen-Darm-Untersuchungen (Geraet: Diagnost 76, DSI) die Anzahl der Aufnahmen und die Durchleuchtungszeit verglichen und 101 Untersuchungen mit sowohl digital als auch konventionell dokumentierten Aufnahmen anhand eines 5stufigen Kriteriensystems vergleichend bewertet. Die Einfallsdosis des DSI betraegt 12 bis 36% jener der Film-Folien-Technik, wobei die Detailaufloesung der DSI besser sein kann als bei der Film-Folien-Technik (Empfindlichkeitsklasse 200). Die Durchleuchtungszeit war bei beiden Verfahren nahezu gleich. Bei 2 von 4 Untersuchungsarten wurden mit der DSI signifikant mehr Aufnahmen angefertigt. Mit Ausnahme des Kriteriums ''Kantenschaerfe'' wurde das DSI signifikant schlechter benotet als die Film-Folien-Technik. (orig./MG)Additional details
