Description
The calibration of W Re thermocouples under neutron irradiation has been studied at Petten in a collaborative experiment. The experiment was designed to separate the effects of transmutation from those of displacement damage by running at temperatures (1500 deg C) high enough for the displacement damage to anneal out. The methods and conditions of manufacture of some of the thermocouples and also the calibration techniques used are described. Travelling gradient calibration was used to identify the position of inhomogeneities in the wires before irradiation and will be compared with similar data after irradiation
