Review of hydrogen deflagration computer models
Description
Various computer models applicable to hypothetical hydrogen-air-steam mixture deflagrations in reactor containment buildings are reviewed. Codes are classified according to their treatment of flame propagation. The three categories are: empirical models, phenomenological models, and detailed hydrodynamics and chemistry models. Specific codes within each category are described and compared. The relative advantages and disadvantages of the different code categories determine their recommended applications. For example, the empirical models are most useful for conducting burn parameter sensitivity studies; the phenomenological models are most appropriate for applications requiring realistic estimates of combustion heat release rates, heat fluxes, and burn durations; the detailed hydrodynamics/chemistry codes are most suited to applications requiring detailed spatial resolution to treat flame-equipment interactions and flame accelerations
