δ18O variations in natural water cycle

Description

The results of investigating the formation regularities of the isotope composition of North Eurasian and Estonian atmospheric precipitation are being discussed. The authors introduce data about the isotope composition of surface and groundwaters of NE Estonia. The nature of palaeoclimatic changes in various sectors of the Arctic has been determined on the basis of δ18O variations in the ice cores from Spitsbergen and Severnaya Zemlya. The experimental material on the oxygen-isotope composition of ground ice from the Kolyma lowland and the northern part of West Siberia allows to judge the perspectiveness of the method in the investigation of palaeological permafrost conditions.
