Removal and cut-up of reactor internal components on TEPCO F-2

Description

As a part of the shroud and jet pump replacement project, GE successfully removed and cut into disposable pieces all the reactor internal components at the Tokyo Electric Power Company, Fukushilna Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Station, Unit 2 (TEPCO, 1F 2). Various improved methods were used including the first remote circumferential cutting of a shroud using a mechanical roll cutting tool as well as cut-up of the reactor components using Ultra High Pressure (UHP) Abrasive Water Jet (AWJ) technology. Other improvements included removal of the core plate studs by mechanical methods, and a technique for transferring the upper shroud and core plate together to the Dryer Separator Pool for cut-up by the UHP/AWJ system. This document summarizes the various improved methods used for the removal and cut-up of the shroud, jet pumps and other components from the internal of the reactor at IF 2. (author)
