B(M1) transition probabilities

  • 1. Niels Bohr Inst., Copenhagen (Denmark)

Description

The static and dynamic magnetic dipole moments are complementary probes of the nuclear wave function. In axial symmetric nuclei experimental B(M1,I→I-1) values can be related to the composition of the total angular momentum as collective rotation and particle alignment. Thereby a possibility of measuring the absolute amount of aligned angular momentum at high spin states exists. This is demonstrated for M1 transition probabilities in 165Lu. B(M1,I→I-1) values are sensitive to the nuclear shape. This is reflected especially in the signature dependence and is discussed employing recent data in the odd proton nuclei sup(155,157)Ho
