Description
BL04B1 beam line, named the high temperature research beam line, is used for common use. White x-ray from the bending magnet is used in it. It consists of a high pressure earth science experimental station and a high temperature experimental station. A high temperature and high pressure x-ray diffraction apparatus with large high pressure press is set in the former. The internal constitution of planets and the formation progress of them are investigated by x-ray diffraction analysis of structure of various matters under the conditions of high temperature and high pressure. The high pressure generation apparatus (multianvil) makes possible to carry out steadily the experiments in the field of 20 GPa and over by using the tungsten carbide anvil. Moreover, it generates the temperature about 2000degC. ZnS was selected as sample of the first experiment and its x-ray diffraction profile showed changing behavior from the zincblende structure under low pressure to NaCl structure under high pressure with phase transition at 15.5 GPa. The high temperature experimental station has a high pressure vessel for fluid x-ray diffraction (2000 atm. of high pressure gas) in order to study the supercritical fluid structure of Hg and Se and an energy dispersive apparatus in x-ray spectroscopy.
