Survey of radon concentration levels in underground workplaces in selected ares of Khartoum State

  • 1. Atomic Energy Council, Sudan Academy of Sciences (SAS), Khartoum (Sudan)

Description

Concentration level and effective exposure dose of radon were determined in the different under grounds workplaces of Khartoum state using activated charcoal canisters and gamma spectrometry. The radon concentration levels were found in the rang of 10.3Bq/cm-3 to 120.9Bq/cm-3 and the effective dose values varied from 0.27 to 3.07 mSvy-1. The overall radon level concentration was recorded blew the united nations scientific committee on the effect of atomic radiation (UNSCEAR) values. A comparison between the present study and literature have been done and the obtained results showed that radon levels in Khartoum state are lower than some previous studies in other countries.(Author)
