The simulation of target relief treated by intense plasma streams

Description

Treatment of solid targets by intense energy streams (electron and ion beams, plasma, laser radiation) is widely used for of material properties improvement now. The surface state after treatment mainly depends on the treatment parameters and initial surface state. Relief smoothing or micro crater formation is observed at different treatment regimes. Kelvin-Helmholtz instability (KHI) development is the essential feature of the relief change at plasma treatment. The mathematical model of relief change taking into account surface tension and viscosity as well as Rayleigh-Taylor instability, Richtmyer-Meshkov instability and KHI instability is described in this work. Using the model the numerical calculations was conducted. Comparison of numerical data with experimental one was carried out. It was shown numerically that KHI takes place at compressive plasma streams treatment. Smoothing of surface took place for the base with the sizes from (1x1) μm to (10x10). (authors)
