Description
The influence of γ-irradiation on molecular-mass distribution of xylan has been studied. It is shown that xylan destruction takes place according to random law. Investigation of the formed free radicals and xylan radiolysis final products shows that its destruction, in the same way as cellulose destruction, occurs with monomeric chain decomposition. Compounds with carbonyl and carboxylic groups are formed, while carbon dioxide and hydrogen evolve
