Mixing effect and the ratio of neutron and proton yields from nuclei in kinematically forbidden region

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Yadernykh Issledovanij

Description

With the purpose of quantitative evaluation of the ratio of neutron- and proton yields σ(n)/σ(p) in the kinematically forbidden region (KFR) in the framework of the mechanism of multiple interactions (MI), four kinds of MI affecting the nucleon production in the KFR are considered. It is shown that the ratio σ(n)/σ(p) of yields in the KFR from the nuclei 12C6, sup(63,66)Cusub(29), 112Sn509, 124Sn50, sup(202,207)Pbsub(82), 238U9=- 2 is considerably less than the ratio of the neutron and proton numbers, as one would expect within a naive spectator picture the ''mixing effect'' due to charge exchange processes leads to the suppression of the ratio σ(n)/σ(p). A similar effect takes place also for generation of π+- mesons with sufficiently high momenta in the KFR
