Development of the new irradiating method to reduce the extra dose for normal tissues

Description

A new method to laterally modulate the spread-out Bragg peak (SOBP) width is developed to realize the conformal dose distribution and shorter irradiation time. In this system, a cone-type filter is used to laterally modulate the SOBP width. To reduce the number of steps of cones, a wheel-type filter to make mini peaks is used. The scanning intensity is modulated for each SOBP width with a pair of scanning magnets. Using this system, a stepwise dose distribution and a spherical dose distribution were formed. And the effective of the misalignment between the cone-type filter and the beam axis was examined. (author)
