Review of HTGR Fuel Specifications
Creators
Description
Specifications summary and recommendation: -- TRISO particle specifications were created in 1977 before high quality TRISO particles had been manufactured e.g. SiC thickness = 35.0, σ = 4.5, new recommendation: standard deviation σ = 2.5 and 33 < mean < 37. -- Superior fuels were subsequently made that had much better properties and much tighter QC/QA data. These were subjected to extended irradiation and accident test programs with good results. -- By now, when fuel is accepted within the 1977 specification range, it may be outside the testing range. -- Therefore, an adaptation of fuel specifications is needed.
