Investigation of near-source basaltic glasses using 57Fe Moessbauer spectroscopy

Description
Two basaltic glass samples have been studied, one from the Masaya volcano in Nicaragua and one from the Villarrica volcano in Chile using 57Fe Moessbauer spectroscopy. The iron(II) to iron(III) ratio has been determined for each sample. The 80 K data shows some separation of the sites and is fitted allowing for discrete doublets.
