Large-area slow-neutron detector with a n-γ separation circuit
Description
A slow-neutron detector is described. It is used in the nuclear reaction experiments by a time-of-flight method. The detector is a compact assembly comprising 19 boric liquid scintillation counters with a cross section area of scintillation volume exceeding by 6.6 times that of photocathodes. The slow-neutron detector employs a n - γ separation scheme based upon comparison of fast and slow current components released by the linear gate. The utilization of the n - γ separation scheme improves hum-to-signal ratio by 8 times and helps to ascertain the weak resonance peaks with the detector efficiency decreasing by 2 times in the whole energy range.
