Effect of temperature on protonation of reactor coolant channel's decontaminating ligands: 2-picolinic acid

  • 1. Radioanalytical Chemistry Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

The protonation reactions of the ligands play important roles in the reactor coolant channels decontaminating process for designing composition and pH of the solution. The protonation constants of picolinic acid and the thermodynamic functions (ΔGo, ΔHo, and ΔSo) for the successive and overall protonation processes of picolinic acid have been derived at three different temperatures. A detailed thermodynamic analysis of the effects of temperature and picolinic acid concentration influencing the protonation processes is presented and discussed to determine the factors which control these processes.
