The influence of ursodeoxycholic acid on hepatobiliary scintigraphy with 99mTc-N-pyridoxyl-5-methyltryptophan in chronic liver diseases

Description

Hepatobiliary scintigraphy using 99mTc-N-pyridoxyl-5-methyltryptophan (PMT) was used to elucidate the effect of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) treatment on chronic liver diseases. After UDCA administration, the peak of the hepatic uptake-excretion curve of 99mTc-PMT (peak time) was significantly shortened. Serum γ-GTP level also improved during UDCA therapy. These results suggest that UDCA enhances uptake especially of anions like 99mTc-PMT, and increases their secretion into bile. Consequently, UDCA may be pharmachologically useful for chronic liver diseases. (author)
