Description

Mixing of organic and aqueous phases using suction pumps/suction line available in the fume hoods in lieu of the hand-pump and plastic bellows hitherto used for the purpose of solvent extraction generator for 99mTc. This minimizes exposure of the personnel to the radiation hazard by reducing the actual physical handling and time of exposure. Use of specially fabricated PVC long handled rod for safe operation of nozzles used in solvent extraction assembly for extraction of 99mTc from 99Mo. In the past, direct handling of knobs was the practice which was unsafe with respect to both dose and physical maneuvering between operator and assembly. The working conditions and safe practice in managing radioactive waste are discussed in the paper
