Modelling longitudinal temperature distribution in TVA Reservoir System
Creators

Description
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) reservoir system includes over 40 major dams and multi-purpose reservoirs in the Tennessee River Basin. The agency also owns and operates a number of fossil fuel and nuclear power plants throughout the Tennessee Valley. These plants depend on the TVA reservoir system for their condenser cooling water needs and dissipation of the waste heat generated from energy conversion. This paper reports on a one-dimensional model that has been developed for computation of water temperature in the TVA reservoir system. The model has been successfully used in evaluating the impact of incremental changes in meteorology on longitudinally distribution of water temperature in the reservoir system
