Fracture toughness and flexural strength measurements of Y-TZP

Description

Tetragonal zirconia polycrystals samples with high density and homogeneous microstructure were processed by different sintering routes and mechanically tested by means of fracture toughness and bending strength measurements Toughness determination was made by Vickers indentation and notched beam indentation, several equations were used, and the results were compared with those obtained in the notched beam test. Bending strength was determined in four points and the variation in the amount of tetragonal phase was made by X-ray diffractometry on the sintered, polished, rectified and fractured surfaces of the samples.
