Investigation of local structure of PbxSn1-xS solid solutions by EXAFS-spectroscopy

Description
The lead atom local surrounding in the PbxSn1-xS solid solutions with the cubic and orthorhombic structure is studied through the method of the EXAFS-spectroscopy. The Pb-S distance in the samples with the orthorhombic structure proved to be by ≅ 0.2 A shorter as compared to the samples with the cubic structure, which testifies to the stereochemical activity of the Pb atoms 6s2-unshared pair. The manifestation of the strong close order in the metal atoms location is identified. It is shown, that manifestation of such close order in the Pb0.5Sn0.5S may lead to the superstructures formation
Abstract (Russian)
Методом EXAFS-спектроскопии изучено локальное окружение атомов свинца в твердых растворах PbxSn1-xS с кубической и орторомбической структурой. В образцах с орторомбической структурой кратчайшее расстояние Pb-S оказалось на ≅ 0.2 A короче, чем в образцах с кубической структурой, что свидетельствует о стереохимической активности 6s2-неподеленной пары атомов РЬ. Обнаружено проявление сильного ближнего порядка в расположении атомов металла. Показано, что проявление такого ближнего порядка в Pb0.5Sn0.5S может приводить к образованию сверхструктурAdditional details
