Description
The development of an intravenous angiography system using synchrotron radiation (SR) at the Photon Factory (PF) is described. This comprises an X-ray monochromator using asymmetric diffraction, providing a large view area, and a fast data acquisition system capable of successively storing 600 digitized TV frame images above and below the absorption K-edge of iodine. Exposure times are 2 ms with another interval of 2 ms necessary for the energy change between them. The exposure time will make it easier to discover diseased parts of the coronary arteries. The 2 ms interval is required by medical doctors to reduce motion blurring. The whole system is still under development using animals. A future system which is applicable to patients is also proposed which will include a new type of insertion device. (author). 35 refs.; 29 figs.; 1 tab
