Symmetry and lifetime of KI excited in a molecular beam by 3,57 eV light

  • 1. Texas Agricultural and Mechanical Univ., College Station (USA). Dept. of Chemistry

Description

The angular distribution of the potassium photofragment produced from dissociation of a KI molecular beam by 3.57 eV light was analyzed, and the asymmetry factor and lifetime derived. The assymetry parameter indicates that at least two excited states of different symmetry are formed. The short lifetime implies that the accessible Σ+ (or 0+) state contributing to the parallel component dissociates immediately
