ESR studies of electronically conducting polypyrrole films

  • 1. Case Center for Electrochemical Sciences, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH

Description

Polypyrrole films electropolymerized from aqueous solutions have been studied by ESR. The counteranions incorporated included BF4-, ClO4-, and Fe(CN)64. The counteranion incorporated did not affect the g value measured, close to that for a free electron, but did affect the line width of the signal. The ESR signal was quenched by the incorporation of the oxidizable ferrocyanide counteranion. Possible mechanisms for conduction processes in polypyrrole and the effect of redox-type counteranions are discussed
