Guidelines for specifying integrated computer-aided engineering applications for electric power plants: Final report
Description
Many computer-aided engineering (CAE) applications are being developed for power plant activities in a stand-alone fashion. This results in costly redundant handling and maintenance of data by these applications. A data model covering the entire power plant life cycle is needed to integrate the data requirements of these power plant activities and to provide a foundation for the development of CAE applications. A project has been sponsored to develop this data model as part of a larger network of plant information called the ''Plant Information Network'' (PIN). The Plant Information Network is based on fundamental principles of Information Engineering. The PIN combines the data requirements for design, construction, and operation activities to provide a thorough understanding of the flow of information throughout the entire power plant life cycle. Additionally, the PIN provides the basis of an industry standard for the effective exchange of plant information between an electric utility and its suppliers. This final report is the Guidelines Report developed for using the PIN. This Guidelines Report enables electric utility engineers to prepare specifications for CAE applications that will integrate common data requirements across the entire spectrum of generating plant work activities
