Actual and envisaged applications of the plant analyzer ATLAS to simulators and training

Description

The nuclear plant analyzer ATLAS has found applications in areas of reactor safety such as safety analysis, simulator development, analysis of emergency and operating procedures, risk monitoring and training. Simulator development is taking place for several German PWR and BWR plants, requiring extensive input descriptions for the system code ATHLET modeling the thermohydraulics, and for the IandC systems. These tasks are supported by tools which will be shortly presented. The application of ATLAS to training has focused on the phenomenology of severe accidents and on accident management. The training courses recently held at several utilities will be reviewed, and the role of ATLAS demonstrated in examples. The continuing ATLAS-development will concentrate on tracking simulators. The results of a study concerning methods for tracking will be outlined, as well as the envisaged realization which will take advantage of the distributed ATLAS-architecture. (author)
