Radioactive wastes from radioisotope research facilities

The activity of the Japan Radioisotope Association (JRIA) on collection of low-level radioactive wastes from research laboratories and medical facilities in Japan is introduced. Of the radioactive materials collected, more than 70% is combustible and the ³H, ¹⁴C, ⁶³Ni, ¹³⁷Cs and ¹⁴⁷Pm are accounting for more than 90% of the total activity. The collection amount is 16,100 (x200L vessel), of which from the medical and research origin are 7,000 and 9,000, respectively. They are temporally stored before final disposal. (S. Ohno)
