Der Schwerpunkt der Arbeiten lag 1976 auf der Weiterentwicklung der Matrix und des kugelförmigen Brennelements. Die Partikelentwicklung lief im wesentlichen in anderen Programmen (z. B. HHT und KEP). Dennoch wurden für die im PNP-Programm herzustellenden Brennelemente ca. 550 kg Partikeln sämtlicher relevanter Typen gegossen und davon ca. 220 kg mit den für PNP spezifischen Schichten versehen.
